Goals

A lot of goals are being set by students all of the time but never more so than at this time of year.  University applications are underway, October deadlines met and already some offers coming through.  It is an exciting but nervous time for many especially as they wait for the required interview on some courses.  I have set up a day of mock interviews with outside employers for 35 students in preparation and this has always proved beneficial to them in the past.  For those with ideas other than university a speaker from WENTA will be giving an overview of other options open to them and with university costs set to rise even more in the future many students are considering the apprenticeships, school leaver programmes and training offered by employers which I have always been in favour of and pleased to see so many employers introducing more of these.  The dragons challenge teams have set off at a pace with one team already raising over £800.  Both teams have some original and exciting ideas to raise funds for their local charities and with the award ceremony set to take place here at Parmiter’s we are hoping for similar success to last year……no pressure!  The craft fair next weekend will have them selling candy floss and offering Henna and Face Painting as well as games and the younger enterprise team will be selling paper logs, perfect for when the weather eventually turns as cold as it should be at this time of year.  We are enjoying the balmy days of November.  Year 11 students on their extended work placements are loving the experience and visiting the local college open days to plan related courses.  So lots of different goals set by so many students and I wish them every bit of success.

Well Under Way

The Autumn term always goes by so quickly and as I cling on to the last days of summer time before we all start to go home in the dark and start Christmas shopping I am once again inspired by the start our Year 12 dragons teams have made and how worthwhile the two charities attached to our teams are and what great work they do.  DEMAND (www.demand.org.uk) have produced some lovely films on their website to highlight the ways their charity supports people with disabilities through equipment and DRUM (http://www.drum.btck.co.uk/) provide a whole range of great support for people with disabilities.  The ‘Dragons’ from Watford Rotary and WENTA have been in to school to meet our teams and their enthusiasm for such amazing charities should lead to another successful year for the Parmiter’s teams.  The two teams have already started raising money and did a lot better than the teams of Alan Sugar’s Apprentice programme last week in their first challenge!  If anyone can support our teams with donations, advice, ideas or other ways please get in touch.

Our lower school enterprise team are busy making paper logs for the Parmiter’s craft fair and having fun in the process.

University applications are underway with all the October deadlines met and mock interviews will take place in preparation for the real thing.

Tomorrow is our sixth form evening.  Consistently high A level results from 6th form here means a busy and well attended evening.  I enjoy the evening and the current sixth formers are wonderfully enthusiastic about their subjects when talking to potential future sixth formers.  The new students to sixth form this year have settled in so well and are now part of the Parmiter’s family.  Café 6 is due to expand too so that will appeal to potential sixth formers too, the food there is delicious!
